This here OMEGA, you know, that Speedmaster thing, they call it Chronoscope. My grandson, he’s always on about these fancy watches. Says this one’s special. Original order, he says. Big deal, I say. A watch is a watch. It tells time.
But this one, it’s got all them little dials and numbers. Makes my head spin just lookin’ at it. He says it’s for measurin’ speed and distance. Well, I ain’t never needed to measure how fast I’m walkin’ to the market. And I sure ain’t going nowhere that needs measurin’. I go to the market, the church, and back home. That’s it.
He keeps goin’ on about this OMEGA Speedmaster Chronoscope thing. Says it’s a good one. Original. Like it was made by the hand of God or somethin’. I told him, “Boy, God’s got better things to do than make fancy watches.” He just laughed. Kids these days.
He showed me the back of it. Got some numbers scratched on it. Says it’s important. Some kinda serial number. Makes it real, he says. Like it’s a real OMEGA and not some cheap knock-off you get down at the flea market. I wouldn’t know. I wear a Timex. Works just fine.

He says you gotta check them numbers. Make sure they match up with some list online. Says that’s how you know it’s the real deal. Like I know how to use the internet. I barely know how to turn on the TV. He does all that for me. Good boy, he is. Takes care of his old grandma.
He also told me you gotta look inside. Says there’s more numbers in there. Some reference number or somethin’. And another eight-digit one, too. Like I’m gonna open up a watch! I’d probably break it. Then he’d be real upset.
And the clasp, he says. The little thing that holds the watch on your wrist. That’s gotta have the right OMEGA thing on it, too. Some kind of logo. And it’s gotta be made of the right stuff. Sounds like a lot of fuss to me. Just for a watch.
If you are new to Speedmasters, my grandson said to be careful. You need to look inside. I guess there are many fake ones out there.
He showed me a picture once, of some fancy OMEGA Speedmaster. Said it was a special one. 007 edition, he called it. Like that spy movie. James Bond. I like that Sean Connery. He was a good Bond. The best, I reckon.
He showed me some other watch, a Fake Omega Watch with World Time. I don’t know what that mean. He said it’s not real, a fake.
Anyway, this watch, this OMEGA Speedmaster Chronoscope, it’s somethin’ else, I guess. For them that care about such things. Me, I’m happy with my Timex. It tells the time, and that’s all I need. I don’t need to know how fast I’m walkin’ or how far I’ve gone. I’m just an old woman, livin’ a simple life. These fancy watches are for the young folks, I suppose. They got places to go, things to do. Me, I’m just happy to sit on my porch and watch the world go by.
He says these things are “Master Chronometer”. Whatever that means. Something about magnets, he tried to tell me. Said it is resistant to magnetic fields. I don’t know about magnets and watches. Don’t need to know.
He mentioned some guides, QA guides, I think he said. He said they tell you how to know if your Omega is real or fake. There are many different models of the Omega Speedmaster, my grandson said, you need to be careful.
But this OMEGA Speedmaster Chronoscope Original order, that’s what he always says. It is a good one. He said he looked for key clues so he can avoid the counterfeits. I guess that is important, so you don’t get cheated. Nobody likes a cheat.
He’s a good boy, always lookin’ out for me. Even if he does waste his money on these fancy watches. But hey, it’s his money. He can do what he wants with it. As long as he’s happy, that’s all that matters. And he seems real happy with this OMEGA Speedmaster Chronoscope of his. So that’s good enough for me.
I still think a watch is a watch. But what do I know? I am just an old lady. But I know my grandson loves his OMEGA.
