This here watch, the Remake Patek Philippe PP Calatrava 6119R-001, it’s somethin’ else. We got a store, a real one, bricks and all, down in Houston, Texas. We sell them fancy watches, the kind rich folks wear. We also got handbags, shiny jewelry, them sparkly diamonds, and old coins. Rolex, Cartier, Omega, you name it, we probably got it. But this Patek Philippe, hoo boy, it’s a whole different story.
Now, this ain’t the first one of these Calatrava things. They made one way back, in 1932, I reckon. Called it Ref. 96. Same year as them Stern folks, the ones who make the clock faces, got their hands on the whole Patek Philippe shebang. They named it after some knight fellas, the Order of Calatrava. Knights and watches, who woulda thought?
This new one, the 6119R-001, they started makin’ it in 2021. It’s got this shiny, rose gold case. Looks real fancy, like somethin’ a king would wear. 39mm, they say it is. Not too big, not too small. Just right for showin’ off, I suppose. And it looks kinda like them old Calatrava watches, but with a bit of new mixed in. They call that “modern” or some such word.
And the whole case, it’s all shiny and polished up. It’s round, like a watch should be, and it’s got these pointy things stickin’ out, they call them “lugs”. And the front part, the bezel, it’s got this fancy pattern on it. They call it “Clous de Paris.” Sounds French, don’t it? Must be somethin’ special.
- Diameter: 39mm. That’s the size across.
- Height: 8.08mm. That’s how thick it is.
- Water-resistant to 30m. Don’t go swimmin’ with it, but a little rain ain’t gonna hurt it.
- Sapphire crystal case back. That’s the back part, made of some fancy glass.
This one here, it got this new thing inside, a Caliber 30-255 PS. Makes it tick, I guess. They say it’s a “manual winding movement.” Means you gotta wind it up yourself. Ain’t no batteries in this one. Old-fashioned, but some folks like it that way. They say this watch is a mix of the old way of makin’ things and this new “sophistication”. Whatever that means. It’s a pretty watch, that’s all I know.
Now they got another one that is similar, but is a little bigger, I hear it is 40mm and is 8.53mm thick. It is also water-resistant to 30m and has a sapphire crystal case back. It is all about what you like, I guess. Both are good in my book, they are Patek Philippe Calatrava after all.
You can see right through the back of this watch. It’s made of some kind of strong glass. They call it sapphire crystal. You can see all the little gears and things movin’ around in there. It’s like a little city in there, all workin’ together to tell the time. Pretty neat, if you ask me.
They say this Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119R-001, it’s a real good watch. Mixes the old with the new. It’s like your grandma’s cookin’, but with a little bit of that fancy restaurant stuff thrown in.
