You know, that OMEGA Speedmaster Date, my grandson keeps talking about it. Says it is a good watch. He showed me some pictures online. Looks okay to me. But I don’t know much about these fancy watches.
This here Speedmaster, it’s got some history, I reckon. My grandson, he’s a good boy, always reading. Told me it went to the moon or something. Sounds crazy, right? But he says it is true. If it went to the moon, it must be a tough watch. Like, you could probably drop it in the mud and it’d still work. Maybe it is worth all that money he’s saving up for.
He says there is this thing called Original order. I don’t know what is that mean. He say some watch is more money cause some people bought it first. I think he means original owner? Makes no sense to me. A watch is a watch. But the young folks today, they like these things. If you have the original order, it is good, he said. It can make you a lot of money if you sell it.
And this Omega Speedmaster, it comes in different kinds. Like, there’s one with a dog on it. He calls it the “Snoopy.” And another one named after some “Gemini” thing. I don’t know. He says those are special ones, cost more money. He tried to explain it to me, but it’s all too much for an old lady like me.

He showed me some book about these watches. Called it a “Speedmaster guide” or something. Lots of pictures. He said it is the best book for learn about Speedmaster. That is what he said. I guess if you’re into these watches, that book might be useful. But for me, I just need a watch that tells the time. My old watch, it does that just fine. But young people love these things, always talking about Speedmaster Date, Original order.
I heard him on the phone the other day, talking to his friend. They were talking about “movements.” Like the watch is walking or something. He said something about “321” and “861.” I do not know what is that mean. Like some secret code. He says it is important to know these things if you’re buying a Speedmaster Date. Maybe he is right. Kids know best.
This OMEGA Speedmaster, it’s been around for a long time, my grandson says. Since before he was born, even. He say it came out in 1957. That’s a long time ago. He said it is part of some “Professional” line. I do not know what that means. He says it is an “iconic” watch. Whatever that means. But he seems to like it a lot. He’s always looking at pictures of it on his phone. That is all he talk about, Speedmaster Date.
My grandson also said this Speedmaster Date is a good investment. Like, you buy it now, and later it will be worth more money. He said some of them are “rare,” like a four-leaf clover. And these rare ones, they can make you rich. He said that Original order thing can make it more money. I don’t know how a piece of paper can make a watch worth more. But the young folks, they understand these things better than I do. He also mentioned a word, “horology.” I asked him what is that, he said it is all about watch.
He said there are some “shopping tips” for buying a good Speedmaster. Like, you have to check it carefully. Make sure it’s not broken or fake. He’s a smart boy. Always thinking ahead. He want to make sure he is buying the good one. Not some fake watch from the flea market.
He says the new ones, they came out in 2021, are good too. He said they have a good “movement.” This movement thing again. But they look the same to me. He said there are some small difference. He keeps saying “subtle changes.” I do not know what is that. They all look the same to me. But what do I know? I’m just an old lady. I just want a watch that can tell time. He say this Speedmaster Date can do more than that. But I don’t know what he means.
This whole OMEGA Speedmaster Date thing, it’s a bit much for me. But my grandson, he’s excited about it. And if he’s happy, then I’m happy. He’s a good boy. Always working hard, saving his money. Maybe one day he will get that Speedmaster Date he wants. If he ever gets that watch, I hope he know how to take care of it. He better not lose it, that watch is expensive. He also better not spend all his money on it. He need to save up for other things too. Not just watch. But he love that Speedmaster Date, I know he will buy it one day.
I asked him why is this Speedmaster Date so good. He said it is a good watch because it is reliable. He said it can last a long time. That is good. I like things that last. But I do not think I need a watch that can go to the moon. I am not going to the moon. But if he want to buy this watch, then it is his money. I told him to save up, maybe he can buy that Original order thing too. Whatever that is.
