So, I saw this PRADA Galleria Saffiano Leather Mini-Bag on the PRADA official website the other day, and I thought, “Hey, I can totally make that!” I mean, it’s a pretty simple design, right? Plus, I’ve been itching to get my hands dirty with a new project.
First off, I went online and looked up a bunch of pictures of the bag. I needed to get a good look at it from all angles. The PRADA website had some good shots, and I also found some “best buy” articles that had even more detailed pictures. It looked doable. The bag is made of that Saffiano leather, which is kind of PRADA’s thing. It’s got this crosshatch texture, which I knew would be a bit of a challenge to replicate, but hey, I’m always up for a challenge.
Next, I started sketching out the pattern. I grabbed some paper and started drawing out the different pieces of the bag. I measured my own bag that’s a similar size to get a rough idea of the dimensions. It’s not a huge bag, thankfully, so it didn’t seem too complicated.

I gotta say, getting the curves just right on those side panels was a pain. But after a few tries, I think I nailed it.
Now for the fun part – finding the materials. I went to my local fabric store, they have tons of stuff there. Finding a good Saffiano leather dupe was tricky, but I did find a faux leather that had a similar texture. It’s not exactly the same, but it’s pretty close, and it’s way cheaper. I also picked up some lining fabric, a zipper, and some metal hardware for the handles and the logo.
Once I had all my materials, it was time to start cutting. I carefully traced my pattern onto the faux leather and the lining fabric, and then I cut out all the pieces. This part took forever because I was so scared of messing up.
Then came the sewing. I started by sewing the lining to the leather pieces. Then I sewed the front, back, and side panels together. This was probably the most satisfying part, seeing the bag actually start to take shape. After that, I attached the bottom panel, which was a little fiddly, but I got there in the end.
The handles were next. I cut out four long strips of the faux leather, sewed them together in pairs, and then attached them to the bag. Last but not least, I added the zipper and that little PRADA logo thingy I made out of some scrap metal. And boom, the bag was done!

Honestly, I’m pretty proud of how it turned out. It’s not perfect, but it definitely looks like a PRADA Galleria Saffiano Leather Mini-Bag. It was a really fun project, and I learned a lot along the way. If you’re thinking about remaking a designer bag, I say go for it!
